DOG MOVIE TAKES AWARDS IN MILL VALLEY AND D.C.
October 14, 2005: The winners of BAFTA awards for Excellence in Short Film were announced at the Mill Valley Film Festival today. BAFTA, the British Academy of Film and Television, awarded the statuette to City Paradise, directed by Gaelle Denis. Runner-up certificates were presented to La Vie d’un Chien, directed by John Harden, and Transaction, directed by Jacques Thelemaque.
The panel of judges included Nancy Donnelly of National Geographic Television and
Film, Jeff Osborn of National Geographic Magazine,
Topher Kandik of SILVERDOCS: AFI/Discovery Channel
Documentary Festival, and Brent Hurd of the
International Broadcasting Bureau.
Jeff called La Vie Very clever, Brent praised its
Innovative presentation, and Topher noted that This
was a great concept well realized. Excellent story.
Excellent execution. So French. The filmÕs playfulness
did not get in the way of its message. In fact, the
absurdity of the plot actually reinforced the quiet
desperation of its characters. The chances the
director took with the narration and visual
presentation, with more than a nod to Le Jetee, worked
smartly as well.
